Barra Airport – Only Airport that uses Beach as Runway

The Barra Airport in Scotland is unique, being the only one in the world where scheduled flights use Barra beach as Airport and water as its runway.

Aircrafts take off and land at low tide on the same beach where cockle-pickers gather shellfish.

There are regular passenger flights from Glasgow to the island – one of the southern-most of the Outer Hebrides and onwards to the smaller island of Benbecula to the north.

The airport is an important link for the island with a flying time of around one hour to Glasgow, compared to a five-hour ferry crossing to the west coast port of Oban, and a further three hours by road or rail to Scotland’s central belt.

Two-month-old baby ‘happy and healthy’ after miraculous surgery to remove neck tumour the size of her head

By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 7:03 AM on 24th September 2011

A two-month-old baby girl is recovering after doctors at a Florida children’s hospital miraculously removed a benign two-and-a-half-pound tumour from her neck.

Peyton Marie Kirby was born on July 11 with a tumour caused by a lymph blood vessel malformation that had dangerously entwined with nerves and arteries.

Incredibly, the mass weighed a third of her eight-pound, 15-ounce body weight – approximately the size of her small head.

Brave: Peyton Marie Kirby, born on July 11, after doctors at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville were able to surgically remove a tumour from her neck

Little Peyton underwent a 14-hour surgery at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville on August 8.

Doctors said the surgery was complicated by the location of the mass, which was putting pressure on her heart.

According to a news release issued by the hospital, mother Tiffany Kirby gave birth via Caesarean section after an ultrasound at the 21st week of her pregnancy revealed the mass growing on the baby’s neck.

An obstetrician identified the mass as a cystic hygroma. But despite its close proximity to the baby’s heart, doctors determined after birth the infant needed to grow before it could be removed.

Heartbreaking: Baby Peyton Kirby underwent a mammoth 14 hour surgery to remove a two-and-a-half pound benign tumour

Tense: Baby Peyton Kirby being prepared for surgery, which involved carefully removing the mass that had pressed down on her heart
Doctors Saswata Roy, a craniofacial surgeon at Wolfson and Nemours, and pediatric surgeon Nick Poulos were both involved in the case before Peyton was born.
Roy told the Jacksonville Times-Union Peyton was able to breathe on her own and spent the first weeks of her life in hospital before the surgery.

Angelic: Coming through the lengthy surgery with no immediate after-effects, Peyton will now go through physical therapy to restore muscle definition
Doctors said she is healthy, although she does have weakness on her right side caused by nerve and muscle damage. She is expected to undergo physical therapy to recover.
Doctors say minor surgeries should take care of baby Peyton’s scar and the hollow look the surgery left on her neck.
Tiffany Kirby and her fiancé Andrew Dandurand said that Peyton is healthy and happy.
‘She smiles all the time,’ Tiffany Kirby said. ‘She’s a happy baby.’

How Steve Jobs’s biological mother doesn’t know he is dead as care home nurses believe dementia sufferer is too ill to be told

By Paul Bentley

Last updated at 7:45 AM on 15th October 2011

His death was one of the most widely publicised in recent history, filling newspapers and television schedules for days as fans worldwide united in grief. Among the few people in the Western world, however, who will not have heard of Steve Jobs’s passing, is perhaps the most important – his own mother.

Joanne Simpson, who reluctantly gave her son up for adoption after falling pregnant when she was a student, is seriously unwell in a nursing home in Los Angeles and has no idea her son has died, MailOnline can reveal.

Biological parents: Father John Jandali never met Jobs while it is thought mother Joanne Simpson does not know he has died

Sources close to the family said the Apple founder’s biological mother, Joanne Simpson, 79, is tragically battling advanced dementia. She has very limited mental capacity and is said barely to know who she is, let alone what has become of the son she gave away. Jobs was adopted in 1955 after being born to Abdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian man, and Joanne Schieble, who was a graduate student at the time.

The couple were not married and keeping him would have been deemed shameful by their communities. Brought up by Paul and Clara Jobs, Steve is thought to have reconciled with his mother but never to have made contact with his biological father.

Genius: The Apple founder completely revolutionised the way we communicate

In his renowned 2005 commencement address at Stanford University, Jobs described how his mother signed the adoption papers reluctantly, wanting to give him away to a well-educated couple.

Paul Jobs was a high-school drop-out who became a machinist and his wife Clara never graduated from college. Joanne Simpson eventually married Jandali and the couple had another child, Mona Simpson, who went on to become a famous novelist, before getting divorced. She later remarried.

‘My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student,’ Jobs said in his speech.

Deteriorating: The Berkley East Convalescent Hospital in Los Angeles, where Steve Jobs’s birth mother, who has dementia, is being looked after

‘She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates.’ When he grew up, Jobs found his mother and the two kept in touch. He also forged a relationship with his biological sister. Despite the reconciliation, Simpson’s dementia is so serious she has no idea about her son’s death. Her condition has so far deteriorated she is said briefly to have been admitted to a mental hospital after neighbours reported seeing her wandering the streets half naked.

Frail: Jobs was photographed in August looking very unwell

A source said: ‘Steve was one of the richest men in the world, but his wealth couldn’t save him and it couldn’t save his mother. ‘We used to find her wondering the streets wearing only a house coat with nothing underneath and sometimes we would find her wearing barely anything climbing trees in her bare feet.

‘In the end someone dropped her at a mental hospital as they were so concerned for her wellbeing and then when her daughter found out they eventually moved her to a nursing home. ‘She was a lovely woman so it was very hard to see her demise. Now she is locked in her own body and barely knows who she is let alone Steve anymore.’ Jobs knew about his birth mother’s mental condition and is said secretly to have helped her financially.

‘They had reconnected in later life and it must have been so sad for Steve watching his mum lose her mind , knowing there was nothing he could do about it,’ the source added. ‘It was like a double heartache as there was nothing he could do about his condition either in the end. ‘While we never saw him round her house before they moved her, what we do know is that her rent was paid for as if by magic every month.

‘And now she is in one of the best care homes, so it doesn’t take a fool to work out who is paying for it.’

Can you do a handstand… at 1,000ft? The fearless female trio who are the world’s only aerobatic wing-walking team

Sarah Tanner, Danielle Hughes and Stella Guilding describe the experience as like being on the ‘ultimate rollercoaster’

Defying death with a series of outlandish stunts on the wings of a plane thousands of feet in the air wouldn’t be everyone’s idea of fun – but it’s all in a day’s work for these girls.

Members of the world’s only aerobatic wing walking team, Sarah Tanner, Danielle Hughes and Stella Guilding perform a series outrageous manoeuvres while strapped to the wings of a plane, as it loops and rolls through the sky at 150mph.

And there’s no denying the pretty trio of Breitling Wingwalkers have a head for heights as they dance, wave, perform handstands and even hang upside down from the wings of a vintage biplane.

Brave…or plain mad? Sarah Tanner, Danielle Hughes and Stella Guilding perform a series a death-defying stunts as their Breitling aircraft hurtle through the air.

Fearless: One of the wingwalkers clings on as she appears to pose for the camera as her plane lurches into a roll. She is one of four members of the world’s only aerobatic wing walking team.

Daredevils: The intrepid trio wave, dance…and even perform handstands thousands of feet up in the air as they power through the sky with only harnesses keeping them secure.

The fearless females perform up to 100 wingwalks a year as their aviation adventures take them to events across the UK, Europe, China, UAE and most recently Australia.

Chief stuntwoman Sarah Tanner, 31, said she’d dreamed of being a wing lady since she watched them at a display with her family when she was a child.

She said: ‘Wingwalking was something I’d seen at an airshow as a child and was really inspired to see women doing it.

‘I’ve always loved dancing and wing walking is like dancing in the sky, but it wasn’t until I was 24 that I first joined.

‘I came across a group of wingwalkers at an event and decided to find out more.

‘One thing led to another, I auditioned and got the job. I’ve been doing it for seven years now.’

Sarah, who lives in Cirencester with her pilot boyfriend Richard, 35, previously enjoyed a career in event management but said she was delighted to have bagged her dream job.

One of only a handful of professional wingwalkers in the world, Sarah not only performs some of the team’s most daring stunts but is also responsible for training the team’s new recruits.

She said: ‘To be a wingwalker you can’t be taller than 5″4 or weigh more than around eight-and-a-half stone and have to have a head for heights.

d e

United: Sarah Tanner  and Stella Guilding are perfect for wingwalking, both being under 5ft 4ins and under eight-and-a-half stone

Dream come true: Danielle Hughes told her dad she wanted to be a wingwalker when she was just six-years-old and says the realisation of her ambition is a dream come true

‘The plane travels at around 150mph so you’re battling a lot of pressure on the wings and need to build a lot of core strength at the gym.

‘We perform a lot of manoeuvres as the plane loops and rolls in the sky. We climb out of the cockpit and onto the wings where we do handstands, lift our legs, hang upside down, wave at the crowd and basically just dance on the plane’s wings.

‘My favourite manoeuvre is climbing down in front of the pilots and waving, it’s a great feeling to be standing at the front of the plane, waving to the crowd below.

‘People are always amazed when I tell them what I do for a living. A lot of people think I’m joking at first but they’re always really intrigued about my unusual job.

‘With all flying there’s an element of danger but we’re professionals, we train hard and everything is so well rehearsed.

‘We always wear a harness and the wire is quite short so if you do slip there’s no danger of you being left hanging from the plane.

‘When you’re climbing around the plane you are hanging on for dear life, you really need to have a firm grip and I’ve been lucky enough not to have slipped before.’

Graceful: The girls do a passable impression of ballerinas in some of their stunts, which require intense concentration and balance

Ultimate thrill: Danielle says the job is like being on the perfect rollercoaster. ‘One plane turns upside down above another and I reach down and hold hands with my team mate in one move’

i j

Commanders : David Barrell (left) and Vic Norman (right) have the enviable job of flying the plane while the glamourous girls strut their stuff on the outside of the aircraft

Fellow daredevil Danielle Hughes said being a wing walker was a childhood dream come true.

The 24-year-old from Wiltshire has been a wing lady since she auditioned for the team six years ago.

She said: ‘I basically saw wingwalking when I was six and I remember turning to my dad and saying ‘that’s what I want to do when I grow up.

‘When I was 18 a job came up and so I went for it. I had a series of interviews and then had to audition on the wing. I was excited when I first did it, it was such a thrill but it was daunting learning how to climb from the cockpit to the wing.

‘The top speed of the plane is 160mph, if you can imagine the feeling of sticking your head out the window while doing 70mph on the motorway, it’s twice as much pressure on the wing.

k Daredevil Breitling Wingwalkers

With just the open air separating the from the lush English countryside below, the girls have to have nerves of iron as they perform their daring moves

Soaring success: The girls perform up to 100 wingwalks a year as their aviation adventures take them to events across the UK, Europe, China, UAE and most recently Australia

‘It can be difficult at times, particularly if we have to perform in the rain, the rain really stings, it feels like you’re being pelted with hail and can really hurt.

‘We need to go to the gym regularly as you need to build strength but wing walking is a workout in itself.

‘When I’m on the wings I feel really free and it’s nice to be able to stand on the wing and wave to the crowd below, particularly if your friends and family have come to watch.

Unforgettable: Danielle says the first time she did a stunt was one of the most memorable moments of her life

‘It’s like the ultimate rollercoaster, it’s such a thrill.

‘My favourite manoeuvre is climbing up from the cockpit and back down at the end, I love climbing across the plane.

‘We also do this move where one plane turns upside down above another and I reach down and hold hands with my team mate on the other plane.

‘The first time I did that was one of the most memorable moments of my life, such a good feeling and one I’ll never forget.’

London, Mar 5 (ANI): A 12-year-old Indian girl has stunned everyone after she was revealed to have an IQ higher than Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

Neha Ramu achieved a score of 162 on a Mensa IQ test – the highest score possible, the Telegraph reported.

Despite her young age, the score puts her in the top one percent of brightest people in the UK, which means she is more intelligent than Hawking, Bill Gates and even Einstein, who are all thought to have an IQ of 160.

Ramu’s doctor parents, who lived in India before moving to Britain when their daughter was seven, had no idea their daughter was so gifted.

Although she had always performed well at school, it was only when she took an entrance exam for Tiffin Girls’, a high-achieving grammar school, and achieved a perfect score of 280/280 that they realised her capabilities.

Two years later, she took the test for Mensa, a society for people with high IQs, and achieved the maximum possible score for someone aged under 18.

“I am so proud of her. Although she’s being doing well at these kind of tests for sometime now this is just marvellous. I can’t express the feeling,” Neha’s mother Jayashree said.

The score would be sufficient to get her into any Ivy League university. (ANI)

The aforementioned tips may be of service yet not yet tried by me..:)

It is better to buy or fill up your car or bike during early morning, when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks underground. . The colder the ground, the more dense the fuel. When it gets warmer, petrol expands. So, buying in the afternoon or in the evening, your litre is not exactly a litre  In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature play an important role. 1 degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.
Another most important tip is to fill up when your tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank the less is the air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine.

1. If time doesn’t wait for you, don’t worry! Just remove the battery from the clock and Enjoy life!

2. Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is like expecting the lion not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.
Think about it.

3. Don’t walk as if you rule the world, walk as if you don’t care who rules the world! That’s called Attitude! Keep on rocking!

4. Every lady hopes that her daughter will marry a better man than she did and is convinced that her son will never find a wife as good as his father did!!!

5. He was a good man. He never smoked, drank had no affair. When he died, the insurance company refused the claim. They said, he who never lived, cannot die!

6. A man threw his wife in a pond of Crocodiles? He’s now being harassed by the Animal Rights Activists for being cruel to the Crocodiles!

7. So many options for suicide: Poison, sleeping pills, hanging, jumping from a building, lying on train tracks, but we chose Marriage, slow sure!

8. Only 20 percent boys have brains, rest have girlfriends!

9. All desirable things in life are either illegal, banned, expensive or married to someone else! So take Marijuana for relief.

10. Laziness is our biggest enemy- Jawaharlal Nehru (Indian Politician  and the other: We should learn to love our enemies- Mahatma Gandhi (Indian Politician)…

11. 10% of road accidents are due to drunken driving. Which makes it a logical statement that 90% of accidents are due to driving without drinking!
But still don’t drink and drive.

12. Who said that nobody stands by you when you are in trouble or facing bad times ! See your marriage pics. You will understand that people do stand by your side when you are in real trouble.

Evernote became the latest member of the “we’ve been hacked” club. And the thing is, what was once a pretty exclusive club now lets just about everyone in these days. I’m a member too.

And as I discovered when I was hacked last year, my experience was distressingly commonplace. And yet while being hacked may be increasingly familiar, it isn’t getting any less stressful or confusing. It’s hard to know what to do, or where to begin, immediately afterward.
Whether you were hacked, phished, had malware installed or just don’t know what the heck happened but there’s somebody all up in your e-mail, here are a few good first steps to take following an incident. This is by no means comprehensive, but it’s a good start.

Ask Yourself Why
While you are fixing things, it’s a good time to take a step back, and ask yourself a more basic question: What was the reason for the breach? If it was your bank account, the answer may be obvious. In other cases, such as e-mail, it can be for a host of reasons — from using it to send spam, to requesting money from your contacts, to getting password resets on other services. An attacker may even be trying to gain access to your business. Knowing why you were targeted can also sometimes help you understand how you were breached.

Reset Your Passwords
Immediately change the password on the affected service, and any others that use the same or similar password. And, really, don’t reuse passwords. You should be changing your passwords periodically anyway as a part of routine maintenance. But if you’ve just been hacked, it’s now more urgent. This is especially true if you reuse passwords, or use schemes that result in similar passwords (like 123Facebook, 123Linkedin, 123Google).

“Password reuse is one of the great evils and its very hard to prevent,” says PayPal’s principal scientist for consumer security Markus Jakobsson. Sites can set up password requirements — for example a character length or that a password include symbols and numbers — but they cannot force people into not reusing the same or similar passwords. “It’s very common for people to use similar or the same password but it’s very rare for people to realize that it creates a liability for them to do it and that they need to change their password after they’ve been hacked.”

Update and Scan
There’s a possibility that the attacker got in via your machine. Almost all malware is installed by victims themselves, if unknowingly. And if something nasty is on your computer, you need to get it off before you start a recovery process. Make sure you are running the most recent version of your operating system. Download a solid anti-virus product and run a scan for malware and viruses that may have been the source of the attack. This is the most basic thing you can do, so do it now. And moreover, use a brand-name commercial program that you pay for.

“Malware antivirus software isn’t perfect — they have a hit ratio of 50 to 75 percent and can miss almost as much as they find, but it’s better than nothing,” explains Jakobsson. And why should you pay for it? “Most people who search for ‘free antivirus’ end up installing malware.”

Take Back Your Account
Most of the major online services have tools in place to help you get your account back after it has been taken over by someone else. Here’s how to do that on Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft,Twitter and Yahoo.

Typically, you’re going to need to be able to answer some questions about your account. Facebook has a novel method that relies on friend verification. Are you using a service not listed here? Typically you can find your way back in by searching for its name plus “account recovery.”

Check for Backdoors
Smart hackers won’t just get into your account, they’ll also set up tools to make sure they can get back in once you’ve gotten them out. Once you have your accounts back, you should immediately make sure there isn’t a back door somewhere designed to let an attacker back in. Check your e-mail rules and filters to make sure nothing is getting forwarded to another account without your knowledge. See if the answers to your security questions were changed, or if those questions themselves have changed.

Follow the Money
If there is an element of commerce involved in the affected account, thoroughly review any activity on that account. Verify that no new shipping addresses have been set up on your account, no new payment methods have been added, or new accounts linked. This is especially true of sites that let you make one-click purchases, or issue payment cards.

“Attackers do things for a reason,” says Jakobsson. “If we are talking about attacking your Bank of America account or PayPal the reason is obvious: They want your money. What criminals will often want to do is hook up a debit card to your account. If they add an address and then request a financial instrument, that is a way for them to monetize.”

Perform a Security Audit on All Your Affected Accounts
Often, one account is simply used as a gateway to another. Your Dropbox account may only be a means to get at something stored there. Your e-mail might only be a path to your online banking. Not only do you need to secure the account you know was hacked, but you need to check all the others it touches as well. Reset your passwords on those services, and treat them as if they have been compromised.

De-Authorize All Those Apps
This is one of those non-obvious but important steps. One of the first things you should probably do if you’ve had an account compromise is de-authorize all the associated apps that use that account for login or for its social graph. For example, Google, Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox and many others support OAuth, which enables third party apps to use account APIs without having to give them the account login information. But if a hacker has used it to authorize another device or service, and remains logged in there, simply changing your password won’t get them out. There could be a rogue client out there that you remain unaware of even after regaining access to your account. The best bet is to pull the plug on everything you’ve given access to. are on Google, Facebook and Twitter. It may be a pain to go back through and re-authorize them, but it’s less so than leaving a malicious individual lurking in your account. And in any case, doing so periodically is just good hygene.

Lock Down Your Credit
It’s bad enough you had your email hacked, but you really don’t want your identity stolen as a result. Services like LifeLock will do this for you for a fee, but you can also do it yourself by contacting the three major credit reporting agencies directly. Depending on the state you live in, locking down your credit might be free, provided you’ve filed a police report.

Speak Out
“Say that your Facebook account gets hacked,” says Jakobsson, “there’s a good chance you won’t lose any money, but your friends might.” The mugged-in-London scam works by hijacking your identity to contact friends to request money. It’s also true, though less commonly so, on AIM and Google Talk and other services. There may also be data that you need to let others’ know has been accessed–from financial matters to sensitive personal information.

But there’s another reason to do this too, and it’s the same reason for this very article, which is to raise awareness. The best tactic of all is to do everything in your power to not be hacked: to run up to date software, use good password hygiene, and make backups of everything in your system.

“This is an amazing opportunity to educate people,” says Jakobsson. “”When you say, ‘wow, it could happen to him; it could happen to me,’ that’s when you change.”

Crocodile Festival in Pakistan

Crocodile Festival in Pakistan..Unbelievable Photo Collection…!!!

The crocodile festival is a unique festival in Karachi, Pakistan.
It is a festival held by the ethnic group called Sheedis.
It is believed that Sheedis came as slaves from Africa.
The festival is held at a shrine in Manghopir, a dry and humid part of Karachi, which dates back to the thirteenth century.

a b

People feed crocodiles and dance and sing.
However, it is the dangling part of the festival that makes this stand out.
A father will take his baby son and dangle it above the jaws of a crocodile.
This is done to find blessings for the child.

During this festival the people will also make pledges to the shrine.
These pledges are given to the crocodiles.
The pledges consist of fresh goat meat.
When the crocodiles accept the meat it will be seen as a sign of luck.
They believe that the crocodiles will not attack because they are disciples of the saint known as Khwaja Hasan.

Before he was the King: Intimate pictures of Elvis aged just 21 and on the verge of changing rock ‘n’ roll forever

New book of photographs show behind-the-scenes moments of a young Elvis Presley at the start of his career in 1956
Collection includes iconic photograph of Elvis and a young female fan’s tender backstage moment, known as ‘The Kiss’

Rarely-seen pictures of a 21-year-old Elvis Presley in the beginning of his career show all stars start somewhere, even the King of rock ‘n’ roll,

Taken by photographer Alfred Wertheimer during Elvis’ time on the road in 1956, the snaps show that despite his tender years, he already had his legendary movements and Brylcreem hairdo figured out.

Mr Wertheimer, now 83, caught the would-be King’s more intimate moments as he records his music, performs on tour and sneaks a kiss with a young fan backstage.

A star is born: A 21-year-old Elvis ‘kisses’ young fan Barbara Gray just before going on stage at the the Mosque Theatre Richmond, Virginia, in June 1956

Taken shortly after the legend had been signed by record company RCA Victor, some of the black and white snaps for the new book include a 21-year-old Elvis and a young fan sharing a tender moment just before he goes on stage.

The famous photograph – known as ‘The Kiss’ – was taken without Elvis’ or the young woman’s knowledge and had become one of the most iconic of the King in his early years.

The fresh-faced singer actually touches the blonde girl’s tongue with his in the spontaneous moment.

‘I never bothered to ask her name,’ German-born Wertheimer said in a Vanity Fair interview about ‘The Kiss’ in 2011. ‘And she never bothered to tell me.’

In fact the buxom blonde is Barbara Gray, or Bobbi Owens as she was known back then, a young woman to whom Elvis had spoken over the phone and had arranged to meet in Richmond.

Young Elvis: The King performing for StageShow in March 1956 photographed by Alfred Wertheimer who was commissioned to take publicity shots of the, then unknown, new star

Making history: Elvis already had his signature moves down to a T when he performed at the age of 21 on stage at the Mosque Theatre Richmond, Virginia, in June 1956

Love me tender: Rare colour shot of Elvis recording Don’t Be Cruel at RCA Victor’s studios on July 2, 1956, from the new book revealing images from the very earliest days of the King of rock ‘n’ roll as his legend was born

When they met in person, they spent the day together, and Mr Wertheimer captured it all, photographing them flirting and being playful in the back seat of a taxi.

Later that day, Mr Wertheimer grew concerned when he found he had lost Elvis just before the show was about to start.

As he walked around the theatre looking for him, he saw two figures at the end of a dark, narrow hallway – the future rock star, and his date for the day.

He thought about letting the two have their private moment, but then thought better of it, saying ‘the worst that can happen is that he’ll ask me to leave’.

Speaking in 2011, Mr Wertheimer said he was never asked about all the pictures he took that day until 19 years later, when Elvis was found dead in his Graceland mansion.

He told the Today Show: ‘The day he died, Time magazine called me and asked me to bring all my photos over immediately.’

Among those photos was ‘The Kiss’.

Despite the closeness evident in the photos, Mrs Gray, 75, said she didn’t have as much attraction to the singer as he did for her, and she never saw him again.

‘Maybe he had sparks, but I never even knew who he was.’

Another image taken a few minutes later shows Elvis on stage, kneeling down on his left knee while singing into the microphone as he wows the audience who had never seen or heard anything like it before.

Another photo taken on March 17, 1956 – about two months after he was signed – is of Elvis performing for American TV’s Stage Show.

In it, he is depicted holding an acoustic guitar while singing into the microphone and displaying his famous lip-curl.

Over 400 photos, many of which have never been seen before, are being published in the new book entitled ‘Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll’ which has been produced by London-based Taschen.

A spokesman for the publishers said: ‘Alfred worked with Elvis on his very first tour before his fame took off and tighter controls were put on images of him.

‘Alfred had unprecedented and unlimited access to Elvis and was able to get so many candid shots.

‘Some of the photos are well known but others haven’t been seen before.

‘We have wanted to work with Alfred for some time now. We have used his original negatives and made them as high resolution as possible for the book.’

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, from a heart attack after battling prescription drug abuse.

His abrupt death at the age of 42 shocked legions of fans still mesmerised today by his singing, sex appeal and on-stage charisma.

What a drink…!! Snake Wine

Posted: March 5, 2013 in Story

Snake wine (in Vietnamese) is an alcoholic beverage that includes a whole venomous snake in the bottle. It originated in Vietnam and can be found around Southeast Asia. The snakes, preferably venomous ones, are usually not preserved for their meat. They are preserved to have the snake poison dissolved in the liquor. However, because snake venom is protein-based, they are unfolded and therefore inactivated due to the influence of the denaturing effects of ethanol.

A large venomous snake can be placed into a glass jar of rice wine, often with many smaller snakes, turtles, insects, or birds, and left to steep for many months. The wine is drunk as a restorative in small shots or cups

Body fluids of snake are mixed into wine and consumed immediately in the form of a shot. Snake blood wine is prepared by slicing a snake along its belly and draining its blood into a mixing vat with rice wine or grain alcohol. Snake bile wine is done through a similar method by using the contents of the gall bladder. Snake meat, liver, and skin can be prepared to accompany the drinks

Loyal dog attends mass every day at church where owner’s funeral was held, waiting for her to return

Tommy, a German shepherd, had been adopted by Maria Lochi as a stray
He would accompany her to church everyday and sit at her feet

PUBLISHED: 15:50 GMT, 16 January 2013 | UPDATED: 22:56 GMT, 16 January 2013

A heartbroken dog whose owner died two months ago is missing her so much he is attending services at the Italian church where her funeral was held patiently waiting for her to return.

Loyal Tommy, a seven-year-old German Shepherd, belonged to Maria Margherita Lochi, 57, and had been her faithful companion after she adopted him when she found him abandoned in fields close to her home.

Mrs Lochi adopted several strays she found but friends said she developed a particular close affection for Tommy and would walk to church with him from her home every day – where the priest would allow him to sit patiently by her feet.

Pining: Tommy the German Shepherd waits faithfully during Mass at the church where his owner Maria Margherita Lochi’s funeral was held

Following her death at San Donaci near Brindisi, a funeral service was held at which Tommy joined mourners and since then he has been a regular at the church arriving on time when the bells ring out to mark the start of services.

Father Donato Panna said:”He’s there every time I celebrate Mass and is very well behaved – he doesn’t make a sound, I’ve not heard one bark from him in all the time he has been coming in.

‘He used to come to Mass with Maria and he was obviously devoted to her – I let him stay inside as he was always so well behaved and none of the other parishoners ever complained to me.

‘He’s still coming to Mass even after Maria’s funeral, he waits patiently by the side of the altar and just sits there quietly. I didn’t have the heart to throw him out – I’ve just recently lost my own dog so I leave him there until Mass finishes and then I let him out.

Sad: Heartbroken Tommy, a seven year old German shepherd, had been adopted by Maria Margherita Lochi, 57, after she found him wandering fields behind her house in San Donaci near Brindisi, Italy

Routine: Tommy and Maria would walk to church together every day – where the priest would allow him to sit patiently by her feet

‘Tommy’s been adopted by everyone in the village now and he is everybody’s friend. Everyone looks out for him and leaves food for him – although it would be nice to find a proper home for him.’

The story of Tommy is similar to the 2009 Hollywood blockbuster Hachi starring Richard Gere which told of how a faithful Akita dog waits patiently for his master after he also dies.

It was based on the true story of a Japanese Akita called Hachiko, whose owner died in 1925 but for the next nine years he waited patiently at a railway station for his owner from where they regularly caught a train.

These shoes aren’t made for walking: The incredible eight-inch heels which will give you very sore toes

Just for show? Christian Louboutin’s latest heeled ballet pumps are sure to create sore toes

Christian Louboutin might be renowned for his killer heels but his latest piece of footwear fashion might be best left on the shelf to merely admire.
Inspired by a prima ballerina’s most important accessory, the French designer created the pumps to raise money for the English National Ballet.
The eight-inch heels feature Louboutin’s trade mark red soles and are studded with Swarovski crystals.
The 47-year-old’s masterpiece is on display in the Shoes For Show – The Sculptural art of High Heels exhibition in Brick Lane, East London.
And he said of the slipper: ‘ Isn’t the classical dancing ballet slipper the ultimate heel’?
‘The heel which makes dancers closer than any other women to the sky, to heaven?’ The Sun reported.
Other artists showing at the exhibition include British Fashion Awards winner Nicholas Kirkwood, whose heeled artwork is titled Alice in Wonderland Heels.

He adorned his pumps with red roses, silver chains and tiny tea pots for effect.
While designer Rupert Sanderson displays his strappy gold footwear titled For Verdi’s Aida at the Royal Opera House.
He was influenced by Greek mythology when he created the extravagant design.
Alexander McQueen also showcased a miniature snakeskin textured heel, which wouldn’t even fit the smallest of feet.
Such artistic heels have become famed by celebrities such as Beyonce, who wore bespoke Gareth Pugh heels in her music video Run the World (Girls) – which are also on display at the exhibition.
The Shoes for Show – The Sculptural art of High Heels exhibition is on at The Loading Bay, London E1 6QL, until November 8 2011. Admission free.
